256th Level of Ms. PacMan

The 256th level of Ms. PacMan is unplayable. The screen splits in half and error code comes up. This is so disappointing considering I've been up for the past week trying to master it. Now, where did all my writing time go?

That starts like a great start for a story...

I just can't get over that there are 256 levels!

That's probably because 256 is the limit for a 16-bit processor (16^2), for which Ms. Pacman was probably programmed. Lots of things have issues when they hit that final level of processor capacity. Door code systems often work on 256-bit processors--and sure enough, code 65536 does strange things to the system when it's programmed in!
